At this public-facing competition platform, participants will develop innovative ideas and explore the possibility of 5G applications, and their combinations with other technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, Internet of Things, cloud computing, etc. What’s more, The Challenge would serve as a platform for the industry to share information and experience.
Promote 5G and its advantages to the public, and accelerate the R&D and deployment of 5G in the Greater Bay Area.
Promote the three major advantages of 5G: 1. enhancing mobile broadband, 2. ultra-reliable and low-latency communication and 3. large-scale machine type communication to the general public. Nurture the development of innovative technology and the deployment of 5G in the Greater Bay Area.
Provide impetus to the development and upgrade of various industries with 5G technology and its innovative applications, in order to establish a 5G ecosystem.
We hope to accelerates the development and restructure in various industries via promoting the advantages of 5G, so as to establish and improve the 5G ecosystem and smart city, and, as a result, raise the quality of life of the society at large.
5G networks have been commercialized in the Greater Bay Area, but 5G-based applications are still in the initial stage of exploration. Therefore, the “Unleash the power of 5G, Build a Better Life” encourages participants to develop applications and innovations in respect of below fields. What is the Challenge about?
The 1st Greater Bay Area 5G Application and Innovation Challenge (AIC) 2020 is an innovation and application challenge organized by China Mobile Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area 5G Industry Alliance, the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute and the Science Park. Through the competition, the winning team has the opportunity to receive funding and technical support to actually release its innovative applications.
Do I need to pay the entry fee?
There is no entry fee required to participate in the challenge.
Can contestants represent an extra team?
Each participant must participate as an individual or as a team. Each team comprises of one to four people. Each participant can only represent one team.
How do I qualify?
Participants must be aged 18 or above, who are citizens or companies located in the Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Huizhou, Zhaoqing). Students, start-ups, and individual makers can participate in the Challenge in the form of a team. Details are as follows:
Students: All members must be students (Tertiary Level or above)
Startups: Companies that must be established for less than 5 years
Participants who are individual makers must provide personal ID card number.

Regulations and Guidelines
An entrant must be aged 18 or over who students, start-ups, and individual makers located in the Greater Bay Area. All Participants should understand and abide by the terms and conditions of The 1st Greater Bay Area 5G Application and Innovation Challenge (the “AIC”).
In accordance to the theme “Unleash the power of 5G, Build a better city”, develop applications and innovations related to education, entertainment, finance, property management, logistics and transportation, medical care, Industrial manufacturing and other fields of 5G.
The proposal should include but not limit to:
Purpose: Explain how the application solves the pain points, or satisfies the needs and expectations of the industry.
Introduction: Introduce the application, e.g. interface, functions, architectures, target users, the correlation between the application and 5G
Advantages: Compare to the existing applications on the market and analyze the advantages and uniqueness of your innovative application.
Prospect: Provide implementation scenarios and business models of the innovative application.
No advertising of products or companies is allowed.
All images must not infringe the rights of any third parties, including but not limiting to intellectual property rights, copyrights, rights of portrait, confidentiality and privacy. In submitting any photograph, the entrant warrants that it does not infringe any such rights. Participants will bear all legal liabilities and be responsible for any litigations and compensations arising from the breach of law and regulations. The Organizer, project partner, media partners, sponsors, supporting organizations and related parties disclaim any legal disputes or liabilities of using and publishing the photographs, and Participants shall indemnify the Organizer, project partner, media partners, sponsors, supporting organizations and related parties against any losses they might suffer as a result of any photographs that Participants submit breaching third party rights.
An material submission must be a PPT(.ppt) format proposal and a MP4 (.mp4) format video. Only online entries to the official website/page will be eligible and no printed or film submissions will be accepted.
Submissions must be received before the closing date. All substitutions should be agreed by AIC.
The Participants retain the copyright of their image(s). By entering the competition, Participants grant the right to the Organizer, Project Partner, media partners, sponsors, supporting organizations and related parties to publish and exhibit the winning photographs on any publicity materials, means and events. Prior consent from Participants is not required and no copyright royalty shall be paid to the Participants.
Participants are responsible for maintaining the integrity and the positive image of the competition. The decision to accept or decline any applications shall be at the sole discretion of the Organizer. Any entries that the Organizer suspects are in violation of the terms and conditions will be disqualified, and the Organizer reserves the right of final decision in case of any dispute.
In terms of selecting winners, the decision of the Judging Panel is final. The Organizer however reserves the right to disqualify any winners and to withdraw or revoke any awards and prizes so granted, without entitling the winners to any compensation therefore.
In case of any discrepancy between the English version and Chinese version of the Competition Document, the English version shall prevail.

AIC’s decisions as to any matter relating to the awards and prizes will be final and binding.
The Organizer, Project Partner, media partners, sponsors, supporting organizations and related parties assume no responsibility or liability for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, theft or destruction, or unauthorized access to, or alteration of entries.
All personal data and information provided by Participants will be used for the purposes of enrollment, statistical use, correspondence and publicity only.
Please read these terms carefully, as they apply to your application and participation in the 1st Greater Bay Area 5G Application and Innovation Challenge (the “AIC”). By submitting your application, you accept these terms and agree to be bound by them.
Aic.gba-5g-alliance.org (the “Site”) is a website of The GBA 5G Industry Alliance (the “Alliance”, “we”, “us” etc.).
AIC aims to encourage the development of 5G applications, and provide a communication platform for the 5G industry; promote 5G and its advantages to the public, and accelerate the R&D and deployment of 5G in the Greater Bay Area; provide impetus to the development and upgrade of various industries with 5G technology and its innovative applications, and help establish a comprehensive 5G ecosystem.
Capitalised terms used in these Terms shall have the following meanings:
means persons and organizations that have been accepted and registered by AIC for participation in the AIC in order to compete to receive the awards;
the ten (10) Participants shortlisted by the judges shall go through a due diligence process as required by AIC; and the same ten (10) Participants shall present their final pitch of their proposals to judges, and the relevant Judges shall select the winner for the Awards;
means any trademarks, service marks, logos, trade names, corporate names, Internet domain names, patents, registered designs, copyrights, design rights, database rights, rights in designs, inventions, semiconductor topography rights, know-how, trade secrets or any similar right exercisable anywhere in the world, and all applications or rights to apply for the same (where such applications can be made), whether presently existing or created in the future, and whether registered or not, and all benefits, privileges, or rights to sue, recover damages and obtain relief for any past, current or future infringement, misappropriation or violation of any of the foregoing rights;
means the individuals/organizations selected by AIC to consider the proposals presented by the Participants, and who will determine which Participants shall win the relevant awards;
means any data, material or information, in any format whatsoever, including (without limitation) any marketing materials, adverts, promotional materials, posters, text, software, images, graphics, photos, videos, sound recordings, audio and video recordings, directories, databases or listings, that are in relation to the AIC(s) and were created by or on behalf of AIC, or which are made available on or through the Site;
means the challenge organised by AIC for start-ups, individual makers and students located in the Greater Bay Area to compete via presenting the application proposals in order for the winner to receive the Awards, and any related press conferences, promotional events or workshops;
means the premises at which the signature day and any press conferences, promotional events or workshops related to the AICs are held;
“Third Party Materials”
means any materials, information and/or content (in any format whatsoever) provided, uploaded, transmitted, submitted or posted by or sourced from any third party;
“you” or “your”
means you, the person who is using the Site and/or applying to register for the AIC;
means the application form submitted by you via the Site, for participation in the AICs as a Participants; and
means the awards of gold, silver and bronze award, specials awards and the finalists selected by the Judges.
The AICs are organised and hosted by AIC. By submitting Your Application and/or participating in the AIC, you agree to be bound by and accept these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, then you must not submit Your Application or participate in the AIC.
AIC shall specify the rules and procedure in relation to the AIC and/or the AICs and how they shall be conducted. The current rules and procedure can be found on the Site. AIC has the right to amend, modify and/or add to such rules and procedures at any time, in its sole discretion, with no liability to you. Any amendments shall be posted on the Site. Your continued participation in the AICs and/or failure to withdraw Your Application after the amended rules and procedures are posted on the Site constitutes your acceptance of such amendments. If you do not agree to any amendments to the rules or procedures, your sole remedy is to withdraw Your Application and to cease participating in the AICs pursuant to Clause 6.
The Winners shall be entitled to receive the Awards, which shall be provided by AIC. You understand and agree that the exact amount of the Awards, and the manner in which the Awards will be provided, shall be determined by AIC in its sole and final discretion.
You understand and agree that AIC does not provide any guarantees, undertakings or warranties in relation to your chances of becoming a Winner.
AIC shall have the absolute discretion to make any decisions in relation to the AIC, and its decisions shall be final and binding.
You acknowledge and agree that AIC, at its sole discretion shall have the right to record the AICs (in any format), and broadcast, stream or transmit the AICs in whatsoever manner (including, without limitation, as a live-stream), as well as allow the public to attend, view, and/or watch any broadcast or recording of the AICs (including the Final Event and/or any Semi-Pitch Events) for free. You shall not have any right to edit, object to or request the take down of, and shall not have any rights, title or interest in such recordings or broadcasts (in any format whatsoever), and all IP Rights in such recordings or broadcasts are owned by AIC as AIC Content, pursuant to Clause 11. You shall not be entitled to any part of the compensation received by AIC from the public, or any distribution, broadcasting or licensing revenue received by AIC.
All costs and expenses incurred by you in relation to Your Application and/or your participation in the AICs shall be borne solely by you.
You understand and agree that not all applications for participation as a Participants in the AIC and the AICs are accepted by AIC. AIC retains its sole and final discretion in deciding whether to accept your application.
You understand and agree that, when you sign up for the AIC, your application will be automatically rolled over for multiple screenings and scorings whenever applicable. You also understand that documents and information submitted could be updated before each submission deadline if necessary. If you wish to opt-out of the AIC, please follow the opt-out procedure on the Site accordingly;
You acknowledge and agree that you can only participate in the AIC as a Participants if:
you have submitted Your Application with all the mandatory information completed, and Your Application is accepted by AIC and you are registered to participate in the AIC;
you are a start-up that has been in operation for less than five (5) years;
you are a students at or above tertiary level;
you are an individual maker.
If you wish to participate in the AIC as a Participants, then you must submit Your Application via the relevant registration page on the Site, and any supporting documents requested by AIC from time to time. Your Application must be submitted on or before the relevant application deadline stated on the Site in order to be taken into account by AIC.
AIC has the sole discretion to determine whether or not to accept or reject Your Application, for any reason whatsoever, with no liability to you.
You represent and warrant that all information and materials submitted by you in relation to Your Application and any supporting documents shall be complete, up-to-date and accurate, and shall not infringe the rights of any third parties. Upon becoming aware that any information or materials provided by you to AIC are no longer complete, up-to-date or accurate, you shall promptly notify AIC in writing at [email protected].
To register for any of the AICs, you must complete the verification process prior to any deadlines described on the verification page for the particular AIC. Event verifications are subject to availability and may close earlier than posted deadlines. Upon completion of your online verification, you will be sent a confirmation by email. The confirmation is sent to the email address provided on the verification.
Awards and Prizes
The Prize(s) in the Competition is product from AIC and its supporting organizations (the Prize(s)), is subject to variation at the discretion of the AIC, and any change will be final and binding upon every participant in the Competition.
The Awardees must accept their Prize(s) in the form provided by the AIC and its supporting organizations. Prizes are non-negotiable, non-transferable, non-refundable and not exchangeable for cash credit or kind, either in part or in full except at the sole and absolute discretion of the Promoter. The Prize(s) cannot be sold or bartered. There is no refund for any partially used Prize(s).
AIC reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to deal with any unclaimed Prize(s) in any manner.
AIC shall not be liable in any way for any failure or breach by any party in connection with the Competition and/or Prize(s) and accepts no responsibility for any loss suffered by an entrant arising from the Competition or Prize(s).
In all cases AIC will not be held liable if any Prize(s) does not reach any Winner for reasons beyond the AIC’s control.
The Awardees may be liable for any expenses not specified on the description of the Prize(s).
AIC’s decisions as to any matter relating to the Competition, including but not limited to any entry eligibility, the winning entry(ies) and the Awardees, will be final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into about the Competition or the judges’ decisions.
Cancellation By You
In the event of cancellation by you, written notification must be sent by email to [email protected] 48 hours before the time of Event. In the event of any cancellation by you or us, the Disclaimers and these Terms and Conditions, as applicable, will continue in full force and effect.
Event Program And Cancellation By Us
The AICs are subject to change. We may change or cancel the AICs at any time and may deny, limit or cancel a verification for the AIC (including a confirmed verification) at any time with or without reason. Without prejudice to the foregoing, we shall not be liable to you in any way for any loss, damages, costs or expenses suffered or incurred (directly or indirectly) by you in relation to the AIC, or any changes to or cancellations of the AIC (in whole or in part).
Code Of Conduct
You agree to behave in such a way as to create a safe, supportive environment while at the AIC(s) and any related event(s). You agree not to engage in disruptive speech or behavior or otherwise interfere with the Event or other individuals’ participation in the AIC(s). You will comply with all applicable laws and agree not to engage in any form of harassing, offensive, discriminatory or threatening speech or behavior, including relating to race, gender, sexual orientation, religion or disability. We may require participants engaging or threatening to engage in such behavior to leave the AIC(s) or related event immediately. If you witness such behavior, please promptly contact our staff member so direct action can be taken.
Specifically, you agree that you shall:
not contravene or infringe any third party’s rights;
not engage in any activity that interferes with, disrupts or adversely affects the AIC or other Participants’ participation in the AIC;
not engage in any harassing, disruptive, offensive, abusive, threatening, indecent, defamatory, obscene, dishonest, discriminatory, immoral or menacing behaviour;
not make any statements, comments or issue any materials that are derogatory, defamatory or adverse to the reputation of any member of the AIC Committee or the AIC;
comply at all times with any requirements or restrictions related to your access to the Premises, and all rules and procedures issued by the AIC Committee in relation to the AIC;
not copy, modify, reproduce, download, re-publish, sell, distribute or create derivative works from any AIC Content (in whole or in part);
not install, upload or transmit (or allow the installation, uploading or transmission of) any viruses or instructions, codes, techniques or devices capable of disrupting, disabling, damaging, shutting down, monitoring or gaining unauthorised access to the Site;
not take any action or allow any third party to take any action that would enable you, or any third party, to gain unauthorised access to, monitor or to tamper with or use any computer systems or networks of the AIC Committee or any third parties; and
use the Site and any AIC Content only for purposes that are expressly permitted by these Terms.
Information About You
Your personal information will be used for all matters including registration, contact, opinion survey, results announcement and statistics of AIC. For the stated purpose, your name and/or the name of your organization may be disclosed on the organizer’s website and/or through other websites and/or media. The organizer may also provide or disclose your information on and opinions about AIC, including pictures, videos, text, event photos, posters, images or audio, to the event co-organizers, supporting organizations or media for promotional purposes. Media includes but is not limited to publications, websites and promotional materials.
License to Use Items
In consideration of the opportunity to participate in the AIC, you grant AIC a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sub-licensable license to use, copy, reproduce, process, adapt, publish, create derivative works from, incorporate into any AIC Content, translate, transmit and disseminate the following (“Your Content”):
any data, material, information, trade marks, trade names or logos, provided, uploaded, submitted or presented by you (in any format whatsoever) to AIC or its service providers, or via the Site or any social media Site in relation to the AIC, and or otherwise in connection with or during the AIC; and
any photographs, images, videos, audio and/or sound recordings, that AIC or its service providers make, create, live stream, broadcast or record of you, your employees and/or representatives in connection with the AIC,
in any form, media or technology whatsoever, for the purposes of administering, organising, providing, hosting, fulfilling, promoting, marketing, advertising and/or showcasing the AIC, and as otherwise permitted under these Terms.
You warrant and undertake that you have all the rights, power and authority necessary to grant the license described in this Clause. You agree that you are responsible for protecting and enforcing your own IP Rights and AIC have no obligation to do so on your behalf.
You agree that you waive, and have obtained all waivers from your employees and representatives of, any and all moral rights in Your Content.
AIC reserve the right (but shall have no obligation) to remove, pre-screen, review, flag, filter, modify or refuse any of Your Content, at its sole discretion.
You understand and agree that Your Content is not confidential and may be disseminated and disclosed by AIC and its sub-licences pursuant to Clause 9.1, and may become known to the public (including, without limitation, when members of the public attend the AIC(s) or view any promotional or marketing materials).
AIC shall not be responsible for and assumes no liability to you to maintain the confidentiality of any of Your Content. It is your obligation to ensure that no proprietary or confidential information or materials are provided to AIC, as this will be subject to Clause 9.
For the avoidance of doubt, this Clause 10 is without prejudice to the PICS.
Alliance’s IP Rights
You acknowledge and agree that as between you and AIC, all rights, title, interest and IP Rights in relation to the AIC(s), the AIC Content and the Site are owned by AIC or its third party licensors.
You have no rights, title or interest in relation to the AIC(s), the Site or the AIC Content (excluding Your Content).
You shall not use any trade mark, service mark, trade name, logo or any other IP Rights of any member of AIC, and nothing in these Terms shall be construed as granting you any rights to such trade marks, service marks trade names, logos or IP Rights. You shall not use any trade mark, service mark, trade name, logo, image or content of any third party without that third party’s prior authorisation. You shall not use any trade mark, service mark, trade name, logo, image or content in a way that is likely or intended to cause confusion about the owner or authorized user of such marks, names, logos, images or content.
Third Party Materials
You acknowledge and agree that AIC shall not be obligated to (but reserves the right at its sole discretion to) actively monitor or exercise any control whatsoever over any Third Party Materials. AIC does not endorse, verify or otherwise certify any Third Party Material, including any that may be incorporated in the AIC Content.
The Site may include hyperlinks to other websites, content or resources, which are hosted, offered or provided by third parties unrelated to AIC. You understand and agree that:
AIC has no control over, does not monitor and does not endorse such third party websites, content, or resources; and
AIC makes no guarantee or warranty, and is not responsible for any such external websites, content or resources (or any products, goods or services promoted, referred to or offered on such external sits or resources).
Assumption of Risk
You acknowledge and agree that your attendance and participation in the AIC(s) is voluntary and at your sole risk, and AIC disclaims any and all liability in relation to your attendance and participation in the AIC(s) or your attendance at the Premises, to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.
The AIC Content are for your general reference only, and are not intended to amount to any advice on which you should rely.
Your participation in the AIC and your use of the AIC content, and the site, are at your sole risk and such is provided “as is” and “as available”.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the AIC committee expressly disclaims all warranties and conditions of any kind in respect of the AIC, the site and any AIC content, whether express or implied, including, but not limited to the implied warranties and conditions of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, compatibility, security, completeness and accuracy.
Without prejudice to the generality of clause 14 part 3 above, the AIC committee makes no representations or warranties:
As to the accuracy, quality, completeness, currentness, adequacy, reliability or validity of the AIC content;
That the AIC content, the site, or the AIC will meet your requirements, or are free of defect, error, omission or virus;
That your use of the site or the AIC content will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free; or
That defects, deficiencies or errors in the site, the AIC content or the AIC will be corrected.
Nothing in these Terms, shall exclude or restrict any warranty or liability for death or personal injury caused by AIC’s negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation or that may not be lawfully excluded or limited by applicable law. Only the limitations and/or exclusions that are lawful under the applicable law will apply, and AIC’s liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by the applicable law.
The AIC committee shall not be liable to you in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise for any loss, damages, costs or expenses whatsoever (including whether general, special, indirect, direct, nominal, punitive, incidental or consequential), including loss of profit; loss of revenue; loss of time; loss of anticipated savings; loss of opportunity; loss or corruption of data; loss of use; loss of business; wasted expenditure; loss of or damage to physical property; business interruption; loss of or damage to goodwill, which may arise in relation to these terms, the AIC, the site, the AIC content or the premises, whether or not the AIC committee were advised in advance of the possibility of such loss.
Without prejudice to clause 14 or the generality of clause 15, the AIC committee shall not:
Be liable for any special, incidental or consequential losses suffered by you (however arising, including (without limitation) as a result of negligence) arising out of or in connection with these terms, the AIC, the site, the AIC content or the premises; or
Be liable for any changes or amendments to or cancellation of the jumpstrater event (in whole or in part)
Without prejudice to clause 15, solely to the extent that any court of competent jurisdiction issues a decision that clause 15 is invalid or unenforceable, then AIC committee’s maximum aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with these terms, the AIC, the site or the AIC content, whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, shall bear no responsibility or compensation.
These Terms (including its interpretation and any disputes relating to it) shall be governed by the laws of Hong Kong, and are subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hong Kong.
If any of these Terms are held invalid, illegal or unenforceable by any court or tribunal of competent jurisdiction, it will be severed and the remaining terms will continue in full force and effect as if these Terms had been made without the invalid, illegal or unenforceable terms.
These Terms contain the entire agreement between you and AIC in respect of its subject matter.
A failure or delay by AIC to exercise any right or to act upon a breach under these Terms will not be a waiver of that right or breach. Any waiver by AIC of any of its rights or of a breach of these Terms must be in writing, and such waiver is limited to the particular right or breach stated therein.
You may not transfer any of your rights or obligations under these Terms without the prior written consent of AIC. AIC may transfer its rights or obligations to any third party without your consent.
Assumption Of Risk
You acknowledge and agree that your attendance and participation in the AIC(s) is voluntary. You agree to assume the risks associated with attending and participating in the AIC(s) to the fullest extent permitted under applicable law.
Changes To These Terms
We may revise these from time to time to reflect changes in our Services or Events, in accordance with customer feedback or for any other purposes. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically to be informed of any latest changes. Where we consider any changes to these Terms reasonably material, we will notify you prior to such changes becoming effective (via email or any other means). You agree that by participating in the Event, without or without notice from us, you consent to the changes to these Terms.
English Version Prevails
In the event of any discrepancy between the English version and the Chinese version of these Terms, the English version shall prevail.
